Danforth looked at the old man’s eyes. The cracked marbles held something worse than rage. Patience. Wren had done this before. He let go.

They didn’t.

“I don’t care about the group,” Danforth said.

Lena turned to the others. “Who wants breakfast?” The walls hummed louder

“Doing nothing also costs,” Emilia said, studying her own display. “See? Baseline metabolic drain. 0.2% per hour. We have about eighteen days if we lie perfectly still. But we won’t.”

Danforth sneered. “So how do we win?” Leave the knife: No change

She looked at Lena. Lena nodded. The math worked.
