The splash screen appeared, but something was off. The usual list of loading brushes and fonts was replaced by a single line: "Awaiting authentication." Then a secondary window popped up. Not a license key dialog. A text field. Above it, a question:

Photoshop opened. It was faster than the legit CC 2023 on his home machine. Filters applied in milliseconds. Actions ran before he finished clicking. He opened the Orion layers—120 of them, a labyrinth of adjustment layers, clipping masks, and smart objects that would have taken hours to parse.

The flash drive was still warm in his palm. On its casing, beneath the masking tape, a tiny LED had turned from blue to red. Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 19.1.0.38906 -x64- Portable --

"What are you willing to lose to finish this?"

Leo was a ghost in a dying print shop. The kind of place where the manager still called JPEGs "J-pegs" and kept a CRT monitor "just in case." His own machine was a relic running on prayers. So when the IT kid, Mateo, slid a flash drive across the counter—worn, gray, with a piece of masking tape labeled PS CC18 —Leo felt the familiar shame of the desperate. The splash screen appeared, but something was off

Pause. Then: "Accepted."

Then he tried to close Photoshop.

He saved the PSD. Exported the finals. Sent the email.

His phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number: "Your pride is worth 0.3 BTC. You have until the Orion campaign launches. Then we send the original, unretouched layers to the client. The ones with the mirrored Coke bottle. The copyright tattoo on the model's wrist. The competitor's logo in the background reflection." A text field

Leo laughed nervously. Typed: "Nothing."
