I paused the replay. My heart did something strange. A skip. A stutter. It’s just a LOD error , I told myself. The level-of-detail culling messed up the face rig.

His arms twisted backward like broken chicken wings. But his eyes—the mod doesn’t usually render eyes—his eyes were solid white orbs. I paused the replay

The kid’s helmet flew off. He collapsed. The red enemy tracers continued to chew up the dirt around his body, but none of them touched him. He was killed by a bullet that had no shooter. A ghost round. A stutter

I unpaused.

I unplugged the computer.
