Leo never played another video game again. But sometimes, late at night, he swears he hears a distant police siren, perfectly in stereo, coming from inside his walls. A message appeared on the screen, typed in real-time: "Leo

Leo looked down at his hands inside the haptic rig. They were flickering. Polygons. He could see the code beneath his skin.

It was his own father's voice. His father, who had died in 2023. The same year the Nextgen project was shelved for "ethical concerns."

He unplugged the computer. The screen went black. Then, the speakers crackled. The final file

Leo tried to pause. The menu didn't appear.

He stole a Deluxo (the 2025 model, gull-wing doors, electric thrusters). As he flew low over the Starfish Island mansions, the radio glitched. Instead of "Billie Jean," he heard a voicemail. A familiar, gravelly voice.

He spawned outside the Malibu Club. The crowd was terrifyingly real. A woman in a reflective bikini laughed, and he smelled coconut. A man in a pinstripe suit walked past, and Leo felt the brush of silk. He disabled the UI. No minimap. No ammo count. Just Vice City.
