An Exploration of the Cultural Significance of Serat Kanda: A Traditional Malay Manuscript
Serat Kanda emerged during the period of Islamic influence in Malay Peninsula, when Islamic teachings and values were being introduced to the local population. The manuscripts were written by scholars and ulama (Islamic scholars) who sought to convey Islamic messages and moral teachings through storytelling and poetry. Over time, Serat Kanda became an integral part of Malay literature and culture, reflecting the history, customs, and traditions of the Malay people.
