Based on the true story of Mahavir Singh Phogat, Dangal follows a former national-level wrestler who is forced to give up his dream of winning a gold medal for India. Hoping for a son to fulfill his legacy, he instead fathers four daughters. Disheartened at first, he soon discovers that his daughters – Geeta and Babita – have the raw talent to beat up local boys. Defying societal norms, extreme ridicule, and lack of facilities, Mahavir trains them to become world-class wrestlers. The film chronicles their journey from a dusty village in Haryana to the international wrestling arena, ending with Geeta Phogat becoming India’s first female wrestler to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
