The other applicants stared in disbelief. But Vanilla flew to Ichigo’s shoulder and nuzzled her cheek.
Ichigo’s mixing bowl looked like a war zone. Flour dusted her uniform. Eggshells floated in the batter. Her partner, Miya, sighed dramatically.

Henri Lucas smiled. "Ichigo Amano. You have no skill. No knowledge. No grace. But you have the rarest ingredient of all: a heart that understands sweetness. Welcome to St. Marie Academy."
"She smells like strawberries and failure," Vanilla whispered, but her eyes sparkled with curiosity. The other applicants stared in disbelief
Thirty minutes in, her cake pan caught fire. (How? She didn’t know.)
She grabbed the simplest ingredients: flour, butter, eggs, sugar. No fancy extracts. No chocolate sculptures. Just a plain sponge. Flour dusted her uniform
The other applicants finished their masterpieces: a mirror-glazed mousse cake, a croquembouche tower, a black forest roulade. They looked like museum pieces.
Inside: an elegant card with swirling golden letters. "You are invited to the Entrance Exam of St. Marie Academy. Taste is destiny. — Henri Lucas, Director." A ticket to a prestigious culinary school? It had to be a prank. But as she turned the card over, a tiny, glittering dust fell from it—sweet, like spun sugar—and the words glowed faintly.
Ichigo thought of her mother’s honey bread. The cream puff from Kosuke. The way her heart raced when she tasted something beautiful.
Ichigo beamed. That was her gift. She couldn't bake to save her life, but she could taste everything —the whisper of vanilla, the secret of browned butter, the story hidden in every crumb. At school, the home economics class was in chaos. The assignment: bake a simple sponge cake.
